Intro to Part I

W-pi.19

Oneness Commentary:

LESSON 19

I am not alone in experiencing the effects of my thoughts.

+++

The mind is One, as God is one. The One-mind that accepts multiplicity seems to experience many other minds.

Because the mind is truly One, a change in any seemingly separate mind must change the One.

That is why I am not alone in experiencing the effects of my thoughts.

Oneness Commentary:

LESSON 18

 I am not alone in experiencing the effects of my seeing.

+++

Alone means, “someone else” is possible but not available. In this sense, it may be more correct to say that Oneness does not mean loneliness but

“Only-ness”.

Only-ness means, the mind is One as God is one. This One-mind, accepting multiplicity, seems to experience many minds.

One way home for the mind in this state is to recognize that all seemingly separate minds are joined in the One-mind; the joining of what-could-never-have-been-broken.

There can be no “alone” in Only-ness.

Intro to Part I

W-pi.17

Oneness Commentary:

LESSON 17

 I see no neutral things.

+++

Oneness is pure, simple, and eternally joyful; perfect peace. Oneness is love with no opposite “outside” it, and no perceptible distinctions “within”.

The ego must “paint over” this profound and perfect peace with stripes of different shapes, colors, and sizes; then sell you on the idea that it is reality. This makes you a perceiver.

Everything you perceive is perceived as it compares and contrasts with something else. Before you can question this sell-job, the ego shouts “Look out there!”, or “Watch out for that one!” or “Here! Protect this one instead of that one!”. While you deal with disturbing “problems”, you forget to question the source of the stripes that you perceive. Your thought system remains enmired in “separation-mode”.

This mode is the source of the illusion-of-a-world that you see and the reason you seem to be here in it.

The freedom of Oneness is currently beyond your experience. The recovery of the experience of this freedom requires that you first accept your current mode of thinking, just as it is. The challenge is to accept something that is hidden from you the way water is unknown to a fish.

Although hidden, your mind is the source of this illusory world. To know your mind, you must pay attention to and respect what shows up in the illusion.

In the illusion, any perception is available to be experienced, at any time. In fact, the world’s illusory nature is the very reason that this is so. There is no “order” imposed from “outside” of this illusion. If this was not true, you would indeed be a “victim of the world you see”.

W-pi.16

Oneness Commentary:

LESSON 16

 I have no neutral thoughts.

+++

In separation, the nature of your thinking is expressed within the illusion as process; time seems true.

The nature of your thinking remains beyond direct awareness but can be known via your perceptions. The nature of your thinking is the cause of what you perceive; the illusory world you know is the effect.

Do not disregard this illusion because it is illusion or because you do not like what you encounter. The illusory world shows your state of mind which is otherwise hidden. What is apparent either reflects the “truth” of multiplicity or the Truth of simplicity (Oneness). For this reason, your life experience can be the curriculum for separation or for Oneness.

In Oneness, thoughts have no “where” to “go”.

In Oneness, there can be no separation between thought and expression.

In Oneness, the idea and the expression of the idea is One.

Oneness Commentary:

LESSON 15

My thoughts are images that I have made.

+++

Simply stated, Oneness cannot contain “things” and there can be “no-thing” outside Oneness. The challenge we confront today is that our perception is filled with many “things”.

 Perception requires differences and distinction.

The body is your most perceptible experience. Care of this body makes differences seem important. As long as you seem to have a body, you must respect the body you seem to have. As long as you seem to have a body you must respect the likelihood that you believe differences are important.

While you believe differences are important, you will never question the function of your eyes, as organs that see “things” that seem to really be there. While you believe differences are important, you will experience barriers to the experience of Love’s presence.

This Course is mind training in letting go of these barriers.

Oneness Commentary:

LESSON 14

God did not create a meaningless world.

+++

“Complexity is not of God. ²How could it be, when all He knows is One? ³He knows of one creation, one reality, one truth and but one Son. Nothing conflicts with oneness.”

(ACIM, T-26.III.1:1-4)

The world you see is complex and full of conflict. The ego is “comfortable” with the world. As you identify with the ego, you embrace this conflict. You may find it difficult to accept conflict as “comfortable”; you do not notice how often you define your “self” by what you are against.

Think of complexity as swaddling that you have become comfortable with, even though it is also constraining and confining. This swaddling is, of course, a barrier. If Oneness is true, there can be no barriers, only a “space” that is perfect and open yet full and complete. Because of your identification with the ego, your tolerance of Oneness is limited.

(“The mind that taught itself to think specifically can no longer grasp abstraction in the sense that it is all-encompassing. (ACIM, W-161.4:7)”)

Learning to tolerate the presence of this “open space” will enable you to make the choice to identify with your Real self. Practice is required. There may be discomfort in this process and this is understandable.

In this, you are not alone.

Oneness Commentary:

LESSON 13

A meaningless world engenders fear.

+++

What you are, is that open space into which meaning is drawn; it is your function to choose meaning.

You have a limited tolerance for the “open space” of what you are, because you identify with the ego and not with the Oneness of God. The ego you have identified with, is like a person who finds quietude disturbing and must fill the air with talk (chatter) of “something else”. The meaning of perceptions, provided by the ego, is of separation and is therefore impossible. Impossible or not, you believe your perceptions.

“What is everything leaves room for nothing else. (ACIM, T-26.III.1:12)”, means that Oneness, God’s Reality, is the only Reality. The meaning provided by the Holy Spirit, is the “open space” that you really are, which resembles the Reality of Oneness.

Developing tolerance for the presence of this open space will allow you to identify with your actual Self; practice is required. There may be discomfort in this process and this is understandable.

In this, you are not alone.

Oneness Commentary:

LESSON 12

I am upset because I see a meaningless world.

+++

The ego-mind is distressed by the Oneness of Reality; that-which-is-neither good nor bad; in nor out; up nor down; right nor left. The ego is comfortable with differences and distinctions because such is the justification for separation. Therefor, the Oneness of Reality must be painted over with the stripes of differences and distinction, else the ego is distressed. Once painted, distress remains.

These stripes of difference and distinction have no meaning in themselves.

Differences and distinctions make partitions and barriers to separate this from that. We hide behind these barriers for protection, forgetting that the barriers themselves are the justification for our fear. We have accepted that we must be alone and isolated, because of these barriers.

We forget Oneness. We forget to laugh. We forget what we are. Fear is our experience. We are upset,

Without barriers, there is simply Oneness; there can be no “other” to fear.

This is why fear has no place in Oneness.

Oneness Commentary:

LESSON 11

 My meaningless thoughts are showing me a meaningless world.

+++

What you currently call thinking occurs as a voice that you hear in your head. You have identified with this “chatterer” and have accepted all of its chatter as though it was you “thinking”. What you have overlooked is that you have been made “the listener”.

 The voice chatters on about differences and distinction seen in the world. It chatters about why these differences are important. It chatters on about the threat that results from these differences.

Because of your identification with this voice, you accept the world-view of the chatterer and you seldom question it. When you do question the validity of its chatter, you do so based on its world view. You question this voice in one area but not in another because that area is different and that difference is important (says the voice).

To the extent that you believe these differences are important, forgiveness can be difficult.

Your challenge is that the world you see is based on this world view.

This, is the barrier to the experience of loves presence.

There can be no barriers that separate, if Oneness is true.

Oneness is true.

Oneness Commentary:

LESSON 10

 My thoughts do not mean anything.

+++

What you now call thinking, occurs as a voice in your head.

The voice chatters on about differences and distinction and why they are important.

It chatters about the threat resulting from these differences and this is upsetting. This upset and the seeming importance of these differences distracts you from questioning the lie of separation.

You have identified with this “chatterer” and accept all its chatter as though it were you “thinking”. You un-mindfully equate thinking with being the listener, the audience.

You are not alone in this experience.

This is Two-ness, not Oneness.

In Oneness, actual thinking occurs outside of time and space. What “becomes known” to you through real thinking, is “the always-known”. What becomes known to you in time, seems to come to you, and when realized, feels always and ever-present; as though it belongs to you or, in a sense, IS you eternally.

In Oneness, the known and the knower are no different.
