W-pi.17

Oneness Commentary:

LESSON 17

 I see no neutral things.

+++

Oneness is pure, simple, and eternally joyful; perfect peace. Oneness is love with no opposite “outside” it, and no perceptible distinctions “within”.

The ego must “paint over” this profound and perfect peace with stripes of different shapes, colors, and sizes; then sell you on the idea that it is reality. This makes you a perceiver.

Everything you perceive is perceived as it compares and contrasts with something else. Before you can question this sell-job, the ego shouts “Look out there!”, or “Watch out for that one!” or “Here! Protect this one instead of that one!”. While you deal with disturbing “problems”, you forget to question the source of the stripes that you perceive. Your thought system remains enmired in “separation-mode”.

This mode is the source of the illusion-of-a-world that you see and the reason you seem to be here in it.

The freedom of Oneness is currently beyond your experience. The recovery of the experience of this freedom requires that you first accept your current mode of thinking, just as it is. The challenge is to accept something that is hidden from you the way water is unknown to a fish.

Although hidden, your mind is the source of this illusory world. To know your mind, you must pay attention to and respect what shows up in the illusion.

In the illusion, any perception is available to be experienced, at any time. In fact, the world’s illusory nature is the very reason that this is so. There is no “order” imposed from “outside” of this illusion. If this was not true, you would indeed be a “victim of the world you see”.

Oneness Commentary:

LESSON 16

 I have no neutral thoughts.

+++

In separation, the nature of your thinking is expressed within the illusion as a process; time seems true.

The nature of your thinking remains beyond direct awareness but can be known via your perceptions. The nature of your thinking is the cause of what you perceive; the illusory world you know is the effect.

Do not disregard this illusion, just because it is illusion or because you do not like what you encounter. The illusory world shows your state of mind which is otherwise hidden from you. What is apparent either reflects the “truth” of multiplicity or the Truth of simplicity (Oneness). For this reason, your life experience can be the curriculum for either separation or Oneness.

In Oneness, thoughts have no “where” to “go”.

In Oneness, thought, ideas, and the expression of either are One.

Oneness Commentary:

LESSON 15

My thoughts are images that I have made.

+++

Simply stated, Oneness cannot contain “things” and there can be “no-thing” outside Oneness. The challenge we confront today is that our perception is filled with many “things”.

Perception requires differences and distinction.

The body is your most perceptible experience. Care of this body makes differences seem important. As long as you seem to have a body, you must respect the body you seem to have. As long as you seem to have a body you must respect the likelihood that you believe differences are important.

While you believe differences are important, you will never question the function of your eyes as organs that seem to see “things” that are there. While you believe differences are important, you will experience barriers to the experience of Love’s presence.

This Course is mind training in letting go of these barriers.

Oneness Commentary:

LESSON 14

God did not create a meaningless world.

+++

“Complexity is not of God. ²How could it be, when all He knows is One? ³He knows of one creation, one reality, one truth and but one Son. Nothing conflicts with oneness.” (ACIM, T-26.III.1:1-4)

The world you see is complex and full of conflict. The ego is “comfortable” with the world. As you identify with the ego, you embrace this conflict.

You may find it difficult to accept conflict as “comfortable” to you; you do not notice how often you define your “self” by what you are against. Think of complexity as swaddling that you have become comfortable with, even though it is also constraining and confining. This swaddling is, of course, a barrier.

Because of your identification with the ego, your tolerance of Oneness has limits.

“The mind that taught itself to think specifically can no longer grasp abstraction in the sense that it is all-encompassing.” (ACIM, W-161.4:7)

If Oneness is true, there can be no barriers, only a “space” that is perfect and open yet full; complete. Learning to tolerate the presence of this “open space” will enable the choice to identify with your Real self.

Practice is required. There may be discomfort in this process and this is understandable.

In this, you are not alone.

Intro to Part I

W-pi.12

Oneness Commentary:

LESSON 12

I am upset because I see a meaningless world.

+++

The ego-mind is distressed by the Oneness of Reality; that-which-is-neither good nor bad; in nor out; up nor down; right nor left.

The ego is comfortable with differences and distinctions because such is the justification for separation. Therefore, the Oneness of Reality must be painted over with the stripes of differences and distinction, else the ego is distressed.

These stripes of difference and distinction have no meaning in themselves but make partitions and barriers to separate this from that. Once painted, however, distress remains.

We have accepted that we must be alone and isolated, because of these barriers. We hide behind them for protection from the “other”, forgetting that the barriers themselves are the justification for our fear.

We forget Oneness. We forget to laugh. We forget what we are. Fear is our experience. We are upset.

Without barriers, there is simply Oneness; there can be no “other” to fear.

This is why fear has no place in Oneness.

Intro to Part I

W-pi.11

Oneness Commentary:

LESSON 11

 My meaningless thoughts are showing me a meaningless world.

+++

What you currently call thinking occurs as a voice in your head.

The voice chatters on about differences and distinctions seen in the world. It chatters about why these differences are important.

It chatters on about the threat that results from these differences. To the extent that you believe these differences are important, forgiveness can be difficult.

You have identified with this “chatterer” and accept all its chatter as though it were you “thinking”. You un-mindfully equate thinking with being the listener, the audience.

Because of your identification with this voice, you accept the world-view of the chatterer and you seldom question it. When you do question the validity of its chatter, you do so based on its worldview. You question this voice in one area but not in another because that area is different and that difference is important (says the voice).

Your challenge is that the world you see is based on this worldview. And this worldview imagines that there are barriers to the experience of love’s presence.

There can be no barriers that separate if Oneness is true.

Oneness is true.

 My thoughts do not mean anything.

+++

What you now call thinking, occurs as a voice in your head.

The voice chatters on and on about the differences and distinctions that separate, and why these differences are important.

It chatters about the threat resulting from these differences and this is upsetting. This upset and the seeming importance of these differences distracts you from questioning the lie of separation.

You have identified with this “chatterer” and accept all its chatter as though it were you “thinking”. You un-mindfully equate thinking with being the listener, the audience.

You are not alone in this experience.

In Oneness, actual thinking occurs outside of time and space. What “becomes known” to you through real thinking, is “the always-known”. What is known to you in time, seems to come to you, and when realized, feels always and ever-present; as though it belongs to you or, in a sense, IS you eternally.

In Oneness, the known and the knower are no different.

W-pi.9

Oneness Commentary:

LESSON 9

 I see nothing as it is now.

+++

What we call “seeing” is an attempt to cut (shatter) what is Whole, Complete, Perfect, and One.

You “see” what-is-Whole through a lens that shows you a shattered existence, much like using a kaleidoscope as a looking glass. You have convinced yourself that each different color, shape, and angle is a sane reflection of reality. You have assigned meaning to this “sane reflection of reality”, where there is none. This meaning allows you to organize parts of what you see, while other parts defy meaning and organization.

The importance that you give those parts of what you assign meaning to, is different than the importance you give to other parts that you see. This seeming importance distracts you from questioning the lie of differences, distinctions, and separation.

It is in your past that you have taught yourself the meaning and importance of things. This is why you see nothing as it is now.

This is upsetting because in your mind is buried the recognition of Truth; known to you as wholeness and completeness (Oneness). There are no parts in this Oneness. You are upset but are not fully aware of this upset because it is like a constant, dull pain that you would only recognize when it is absent.

Actual seeing occurs outside of time and space. Actual seeing will notice differences but finds them unimportant like the boundaries of a shadow falling across a leaf. The shadow does not cut the leaf that it falls across. The cutting of the leaf can only be true if the difference between the shaded and unshaded areas is of significance.

There is no “significance” in Oneness.

Intro to Part I

W-pi.8

Oneness Commentary:

LESSON 8

 My mind is preoccupied with past thoughts.

+++

You believe that time is true.

Time can only be true if difference and separation are true.

Time is an attempt to separate eternity into different parts; each moment is different in that it seems to follow in a sequence with other moments. These moments are in your past, your present, or are imagined to be in your future.

 The past seems well worth your attention because you imagine that it allows you to control and predict the future. This makes time seem even more important. This seeming importance distracts you from questioning the lie of difference and separation.

Real thought occurs outside of time; now and now and now and now; each “now” is the same “now”.

In Oneness, there is only this one NOW, and there is no “not now”.

There is no time.

 I see only the past.

+++

It is in the past that you have learned the context to interpret today’s experiences.

This past is like the tinted glasses you have always worn. You are not aware of the tint because you believe that the world is simply “that hue”.

The vision that tinted lenses show you is the context in which Oneness is not true and the “other” is real and a threat.

You have come to think of this as, “Just the way that it is”.

Today we call this view to question.
